What is the Eternal Canvas Foundation?
The Eternal Canvas Foundation, founded by Mira Costa sophomore Hugh Saetia, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving cherished memories of recently lost loved ones through heartfelt recreations on canvas for no cost. Grieving families can request an oil-painted portrait alongside a portrait photo of their departed loved one by contacting us. The organization holds connections with various mortuaries and cemeteries, but it also takes requests from individuals or families.
THE STORY
The Eternal Canvas Foundation was inspired by the tragic loss of Eddie Macallister, a security guard and the son of Marilyn Macallister, who was Hugh’s former nanny. Witnessing the profound impact of this loss on someone so important to him, Hugh was moved to offer solace to the grieving family through a medium he had never before used for such a purpose—his art. Painting Eddie’s portrait contributed a new meaning to Hugh’s creativity while simultaneously providing a lasting tribute to Eddie’s memory, offering comfort and connection to his grieving family during an unimaginably difficult time. With the goal of bringing comfort to more grieving families, Hugh established The Eternal Canvas Foundation as a nonprofit organization, dedicating his artistic talent to help those navigating the pain of loss.
